On August 23rd, 2016, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Whirlpool announced a voluntary recall on 15,200 Whirlpool brand microwave hood combination units. According to Whirlpool, internal arcing during use can ignite an internal plastic component. This can pose as a fire hazard if not dealt with immediately.
Recalled products will be exchanged by a Whirlpool factory authorized technician. Check to see if your microwave hood is affected by locating the model and serial number. Model numbers and serial numbers are located on the inside of the unit, above the oven cavity on the left hand side.
